On September 16, 2026, Prof. Seongwook Choi attended Frontier on Tap Vol. 1, an AI meetup and networking event held at the FuriosaAI Lounge in Gangnam, Seoul.
The gathering brought together a diverse and highly engaged community working with AI from many different directions: government and policy, embassies, startups and investors, big tech and enterprise, media, and academia. The informal setting made it possible to move beyond institutional boundaries and have candid conversations about how AI is being developed, studied, deployed, and understood across society.
For Prof. Choi, some of the most meaningful conversations were with representatives from government and embassies. They explored how AI education for young people could connect more closely with international employment, overseas entrepreneurship, and new opportunities for university students. These conversations were an encouraging reminder that universities can serve not only as places of education and research, but also as bridges to wider global pathways.
Another striking takeaway was the strong interest in medical imaging from people working in very different AI domains. Although their technical backgrounds and immediate applications differed, many shared challenges—domain-specific data, trustworthy interpretation, efficient computation, and real-world deployment. These overlaps suggested considerable potential for future synergy between medical imaging research and the broader AI ecosystem.
